As the amateur sports industry assesses the post-COVID landscape, I feel it important to ask administrators how they’ll procure officials for their games. We will likely see a massive volume of games get played in a very short period of time, as teams and athletes rush to get back on the field. Administrators, who were already taxed for time, will now face an onslaught of registration, scheduling, customer satisfaction calls, and more.
With this in mind, I believe administrators should reassess their referee management processes. They should ask themselves whether their current vendor, or current scheduling system, can actually take work off their shoulders.
Do they have a single vendor that can:
- Schedule officials for them
- Handle the payments for those officials
- Supply officials at a consistently high success rate
- Provide new economic opportunity to their communities, specifically recruiting new officials seeking financial relief after the pandemic
The new season will be a great time to hit the reset button. Silbo has proven the ability to recoup teams, leagues, and clubs more than 10% of their time, and every minute will be worth it when May rolls around.
